As parents, “me time” is often something that goes overlooked. In this new weekly feature we’re trying to change all that. Time to ourselves lets us recharge our batteries and become better parents in the long term. Well, that’s what we think anyway.
I’m Molly and I write and edit the Mums and Me blog. As well as that, I work as a radio presenter on a breakfast show and I write feature articles and copy for websites and magazines. I also write over at my personal parenting blog Mother’s Always Right. With all that work going on – not to mention my most important job as a mum to a busy toddler – “me time” is something I cherish.
This week the “me time” came in the form of a long overdue catch up with a very old friend. You know when you haven’t seen a friend for ages, but it’s like you only got together the day before? It was exactly like that.
We talked about current work projects, funny memories and kids. We chatted over a leisurely lunch in a lovely country pub, before enjoying a glass of champagne in the evening and heading out for cocktails and dancing. And while it probably wasn’t the best way to ward off an impending cold, it was very, VERY fun.
I laughed until my stomach hurt and really enjoyed getting glammed up for a night away from the sofa and my slippers. I even wore heels!
I know it’ll probably be another year before I get to catch up properly with my friend like that again, so I’m really pleased we grabbed the opportunity and I gave myself a night off for a change. While I definitely don’t have the stamina for regular late nights away from home, I think that just made me enjoy the evening more, as it was so rare.
I’ve been really enjoying reading about your “me time” moments and have been inspired to start a new book this week after hearing about some of the great reads you’ve been getting into. I also have a new resolution to add a bit of pampering to my weekly routine, much like Sophie at Super Amazing Mum and Aly at Plus 2.4.
So tell me, how have you been spending your “me time” this week? Inspire us with more posts about something you’ve done just for yourself. Whether it was time with an old friend, a crafting activity, a good book or some regular old-fashioned pampering, as long as it was something you did just for you, then we want to hear about it.

Finding ‘Me Time’ is tricky. I always have a sense of guilt, but now my little one is funded, I have 15 hours which I don’t feel guilty about! I’m not sure I’d particularly class that as ‘Me Time’ though considering I rush around getting everything done that I need to!
You’re so right, I expect those 15 hours are spent running around trying to cram in all the stuff you don’t have time for when your little one is at home! Know EXACTLY what it’s like! Molly x
My bro bookmarked this web page for me and I have been going through it for the past several hours. This is really going to assist me and my classmates for our class project. By the way, I like the way you write.
I took some time out for a bit of makeup pampering this week. A while ago I had a little mini makeover and the company asked my to try out some more of their products. As busy Mums we just don’t get enough time to do this sort of thing and I loved it!
That’s completely inspired me to look into a similar type of mini makeover Jen. I really need a bit of an overhaul on the makeup front! Molly x
I have a girls night coming up soon too
LOVE those heels and need to treat myself to some too – off to have a quick online shop now
Ooh – have a great time on your girls night out Marianne…don’t forget the emergency plasters if you opt for heels! Molly x
