Let the post-Jubilee, pre-summer detox commence!

After an AMAZING week of Jubilee celebrations, we’re truly exhausted here at Mums and Me towers. We’ve eaten cake – lots of it. We’ve indulged in our fair share of Pimms and G&T’s. And now, we think, it’s time to take a break from the naughtiness and get back to being healthy – for a few days at least!

So we’ve decided to go on a bit of a post-Jubilee, pre-summer detox. Who’s joining us?

Although we love cake as much as the next person, the facts are simple: too much of the bad stuff can leave you feeling a tad bloated, your jeans end up a tad tighter and your skin looks a tad washed out.

So, without further ado, here are our top tips to looking and feeling great as we approach the summer (if it ever stops raining)

Lemons

Lemons have magical antioxidant qualities. OK, so maybe not magical as such, but they are the perfect detox ingredient. A splash of fresh lemon juice in a cup of boiling water first thing in the morning will flush out all sorts of nasty toxins and kick-start your metabolism for the day.

Lemon JuiceThroughout the day, add a slice of lemon to a glass of water, along with some fresh sprigs of mint. It gives a bit of extra zing to an otherwise dull drink and will continue the detox of naughty stuff. If you close your eyes for long enough, you can even fool yourself into thinking it’s a lovely cold G&T!

Outfits

Let’s face it, it’s not always easy choosing practical and stylish outfits that flatter and suit a post-baby figure. And this is a particularly tricky time of year, what with the post-Jubilee cake indulgence and warmer weather, meaning more is on show.

Personal stylist Lisa Talbot has given us some inspiration for what to look out for to hide those dodgy cake and mum tum moments.

Lisa Talbot Personal Outfits“Look out for tunic style tops and empire line dresses and tops,” advises Lisa. “Blouson and peplum style tops are also great as they move around the tummy area. Flat fronted trousers and skirts don’t have the additional bulk on the waist, so look brilliant. And high waisted trousers and skirts flatten the tummy area and create a wonderfully flattering line.”

Skin

A guaranteed way to help give your face a bit of an extra glow is to book yourself in for a facial treatment.

Skin TherapyThe microdermabrasion technique is the latest one to make the transition from Hollywood spa to our own doorsteps and we’re firm fans.

The innovative procedure has been labelled by many celebs as the next best thing to a facelift, without having to undergo any kind of invasive treatment.

Special crystals are used to remove dead cells and regenerate the skin – it can even be used to treat specific conditions like scar tissue and pigmentation abnormalities.

We love the treatment on offer at Human Hair & Beauty in London. Very handy if you’re near to their Fulham or Uxbridge branches!

And finally – because it’s something our own mums told us – the very best tip of all? Plaster on a big fat smile. It will detract from the wobbliest tummy and most sinful chocolate cake. (That’s what we keep telling ourselves, anyway.)
