Hi, I’m Molly. When I’m not writing and editing the Mums and Me blog, I can be found blogging at Mother’s Always Right.
Like many parents, I struggle to find a moment for myself during my very busy days.
I have a beautiful toddler who would give Madonna a run for her money with her diva like tendencies. I have a career as a writer, radio presenter and journalist. I have a husband who I occasionally like to spend time with (!). And I have a house that doesn’t clean itself.
With all of these demands on my time, it’s rare that I ever get a moment to do something purely selfish, just for me. Like most parents I know, the to-do list is never-ending and in my quest to tick off all the items on it, I don’t get much time to sleep or relax.
But all that’s going to change.
Working with Mums and Me has given me a wake-up call. The team here knows how important it is to take a little time out every now and again, so a new weekly feature – Me Time Monday – has been launched to encourage parents to do at least one thing just for themselves every week and then link up and inspire others to do the same.
Lisa, who blogs at The Mummy Whisperer, tells us why it’s such an important thing to do. “There are two huge benefits for the family when a Mum treats herself every now and again or takes some time out. The first is that it perks her up, improving her stamina and patience to deal with the day to day challenges.
“The second is more subtle, and is about the message we give our kids about looking after themselves and how important it is to balance looking after others and looking after yourself; never underestimate how our behaviour builds their future habits. So go on treat yourself!”
So with that in mind, I’m joining the weekly Me Time Monday brigade. It’ll force me to grab a slice of my own “me time” and be inspired as I read about the things you’ve done too.
This week, I took twenty minutes of time out to paint my toenails. It may not sound like much, but it’s a piece of pampering I’ve neglected to do for a good couple of months. So on Thursday evening, I turned off my computer, had a lovely hot shower and then painted my toenails afterwards.
It was bliss. My toenails no longer look drab and miserable, instead they’ve been replaced with a little bit of summer. In fact, I’m almost tempted to ignore the bad weather and wander round in flip-flops for a few days.
So tell me, what did you do?
Whether it’s taking ten minutes to read some of a good book, running yourself a hot bath, going to an exercise class, or just watching your favourite TV programme – whatever it is, we want to hear about it. As long as it was something you did for you and you alone then it ticks the “Me Time Monday” box.
Link up and tell us about it. The linky will remain open for a week until the next Me Time Monday feature, so there’s no rush.
Don’t forget to grab the badge code (which can be found on our side bar near the bottom of the screen) and display it on your post. And then come back and be inspired by new ways to enjoy some time to yourself next week.
